Studio Reveal: "Cosmic Dawn" on Purple Foil

Welcome back to the blog!

Today, I’m sharing a special look at a piece that recently left the studio to go to its forever home: "Cosmic Dawn."

While this piece is no longer available, I couldn't resist sharing the details with you because it marks one of my favorite experiments with color and material so far.

Abstract painting titled Cosmic Dawn by Design by Nissa, featuring pink, yellow, and blue acrylic swirls on a deep reflective purple foil background.

The Power of Purple

If you’ve been following my work, you know that the base material is just as important as the paint itself. For "Cosmic Dawn," I worked on a striking 14x11 Purple Foil Cardstock.

We usually associate foil art with silver or gold, but the purple base creates an entirely different mood. It provides a deep, moody, almost "galactic" backdrop that absorbs and reflects light in a very mysterious way.

The Palette

The name "Cosmic Dawn" came from the color palette. I used a mix of electric pinks, soft yellows, bright blues, and purples.

The contrast here is key. When the pink and yellow acrylics hit that deep purple reflective background, it looks like a sunrise breaking over a purple sky. It’s vibrant, energetic, and full of that "visual dopamine" I strive for in every piece.

Private Collection

This specific piece has already found its owner and is now part of a private collection.

However, working on "Cosmic Dawn" gave me so much inspiration for the upcoming Reflections Collection launching in 2026. Exploring how different foil colors—like green and purple—interact with acrylics has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for my future work.

Want to see it in action? Static photos can’t quite capture the color shift, so check out the video I posted on Instagram or Pinterest to see the purple foil shimmering in the light.

Stay tuned for more studio updates!
